Travelling to Troon

WinterStorm has prided itself in attracting music fans from all over the UK and beyond with regulars visitors from various parts of Europe. We thought it would be worthwhile updating our travel and transport pages for visitors coming to Scotland and Ayrshire.

Troon is located on the south west coast of Scotland and is around an hour south of Glasgow. As host of The Open Championship every half dozen years or so it is famous for its golf courses - there are seven in the town alone and plenty more around Ayrshire - but it is an all year destination with great transport links, accommodation options, wide range of pubs and restaurants and two wonderful beaches.

You can read more in the links below but how do you get here? Wlll read some information below but get in touch at any time for more detailed assistance.

WinterStorm is closer than you think!

A seaside resort on the west coast of Scotland sounds remote and in a way it is and perhaps its the out of city destination is the reason why so many fans return year after year but it is not as difficult to get to as you may think!

Flying to Scotland?

There are three primary airports to consider if you're flying in to WinterStorm - Prestwick, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Edinburgh Airport

Scotland's largest inbound hub and located only 75 minutes away by road or you can take the train via Edinburgh and Glasgow in a couple of hours. There are direct flights from most major UK and European hubs into Edinburgh throughout the year and some great prices in November too. Edinburgh is a really good option of coming to WinterStorm and the drive west is pretty hassle free with motorway almost all the way from the terminal to the stage!

Glasgow Airport

Glasgow Airport is located a few miles west of the city centre of Glasgow and again provides an ideal entry point for WinterStorm but there are a lot less European flights into Glasgow than Edinburgh. Plenty UK and Irish inbound flights though and the usual budget airlines fly in including EasyJet, Ryanair and Jet2 and others.

The airport has good public transport links into the city and to nearby Paisley where a train to WinterStorm runs every half hour. Its about a forty minute drive from the airport to Troon. We've linked to a destination map on the airport site but clearly most of these are seasonal routes.

Glasgow Airport Destinations

Prestwick Airport

Located only a single rail stop away from WinterStorm, this used to be one of the busier airports in Scotland but is now limited to a much smaller of inbound routes and you will be limited in November to routes from a few Spanish airport but if you are near Malaga you could be in luck.

North of England Airports

If you're willing to drive or train a little further you can widen your inbound flights through English airports such as Manchester or Newcastle. It's certainly not beyond possible and both airports would be regularly used by Scottish travellers heading abroad

Newcastle Airport

Driving to WinterStorm

Well apart from typing in Troon Concert Hall into Google Maps we won't add much more! Troon is linked to the motorway network via the A77/M77 and is around forty five minutes south west of Glasgow. If travelling from the south and west of England follow M6; M74; M77 then signs for Troon via the A78 and A79. From North East England and the east coat it will be the A1(M) and then cross over Scotch Corner to join the M6 north.

If anyone is willing to offer car share please email us with your route details and we'll share it on the website.
